How to stop Tomcat dump file @ Apollo 2016.x

by Technical Evangelist ‎09-13-2017 11:39 AM - edited ‎01-08-2018 08:33 AM (453 Views)

Apollo 2016.x tomcat server sometimes generate big *.mdmp file @ C:\Program Files\Hexagon\ERDAS APOLLO\tomcat\ folder. User can use the following workflow to stop dump from tomcat.

Add the parameter -XXdumpSize:none to JAVA configuration.

Go to Apollo data manager, Configuration > Performance, and for the case of this issue is to add -XXdumpSize:none to the setting for 64-bit RDS java tune up). In other cases it may be needed for the 32-bit settings as well.

If you find WMS stop working, then you can also try another parameter "-XX:-CreateMinidumpOnCrash" to JAVA configuration.

Stop generating mdmp file is only tempotary solution, user still need to figure out why 64bit RDS crashes in the first place.

NOTE:

Also check apollo catalog database table "catalog_sys_property"->rds.jvm64.options, make sure its "string_value" is

-Xms64m -Xmx128m -XX:+UseParallelOldGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=2 -XXdumpSize:none

or

-Xms64m -Xmx128m -XX:+UseParallelOldGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=2 -XX:-CreateMinidumpOnCrash

You can also help Apollo development team to further track down the original issue if you can send us the DMP log file.

The log file will help engineering team to figure out why there is a crash in the first place. Under Apollo Tomcat folder, there is one log file for each mdmp file.
C:\Program Files\Hexagon\ERDAS APOLLO\tomcat\
                                                                              |_hs_err_pidxxxx.mdmp
                                                                              |_hs_err_pidxxxx.log
