New APOLLO Web Client

Status: Delivered
by ‎08-31-2017 08:10 AM - edited ‎10-29-2018 06:31 AM

There have been many requests to have a new web client delivered with ERDAS APOLLO that is more lightweight, built on newer technologies, and provides a more modern look.  The idea here is to provide a client that is more intuitive and easier to use than the current solution.

Adding a note from another related idea (

As a user of the Apollo Portal client to search for and discover image files for analysis, I often have search results with several hundred datasets. The current detailed and thumbnail views are adequate for a small number of datasets, but is cumbersome when the number of datasets is large.  The attribute columns in the gridded display should be configurable at an enterprise level. The ability to sort by any column in ascending or descending mode is required.  The user should be able to “select” a dataset by selecting a row in the gridded display or by selecting a footprint in the map panel.   There should be a mode that scrolls the gridded display to selected dataset’s row when it’s footprint is selected and windows the map panel on the dataset’s footprint when it’s row is selected. The Data Window/ Map Window functionality in GeoMedia is a good example of the functionality desired. When image footprints are displayed in the map window and a data window is opened with the footprint attributes and the Map Window properties are set to Fit and Zoom out, the map window will  fit to the image footprint when selected in the data window, and the data window  scrolls to the row of a footprint selected in the map view.

The new web client was not delivered as part of APOLLO 2020, but it was released in conjunction with APOLLO 2020.  The new client is available here:

AOI Notification System

In Apollo we are able to crawl and harvest all the data that is coming in, in order to build a catalogue. If new data comes is, the data is picked-up by crawlers, harvester or the dropbox and the catalogue is extended. The issue that remain, is that the data-manager must manual (email) notify users when new data is added to the catalogue. Or users have to search the catalog every hour to see whether new data is added in their responsible area. This will allow a user to register to the notification service with a self-defined area and metadata criteria and receive a notification email when new data arrives or existing data is updated.

WCS 2.0 Protocol Support

Status: Delivered
by on ‎08-31-2017 06:53 AM

The current APOLLO WCS services are somewhat embarrassing as we only support very old versions of this standard.  We need to not only update the supported version, but also update the technology on which it is built to improve the efficiency of the service performance.  We have also had some requests to support the DGIWG and INSPIRE WCS profiles which are built on the 2.0 version of WCS.

Status: Delivered

This was delivered with ERDAS APOLLO 2018 Update 3.  Initial goal was to deliver the raster aspects of this version so none of the vector aspects are currently included.  However, support for vector has not become very popular yet and we can address that with another idea if it becomes needed.

Federated Search

Large enterprise customers frequently have data distributed across multiple locations, managed by different parts of the organization. Federated Search will allow for the use of a thin layer search capability that can translate requests and query a number of other identified catalogs. This effort will initially concentrate on performing a federated search across multiple APOLLO catalogs, but should also begin to consider federating the search across other types of catalogs.

Status: Delivered

The newly released Catalog Explorer supports federated search across multiple catalogs. The new client is available here:

Support for cataloging data on S3

Status: Delivered
by on ‎08-31-2017 07:17 AM

With the proliferation of data, many customers are relying on cloud infrastructures to store their data. Therefore, we have been requested to provide a capability to catalog and manage that data from within APOLLO.

Status: Delivered

In the ERDAS APOLLO 2018 Update 3 and later version.

Currently the Apollo security model of user / group dows not apply to data download capabilities.

That is either the dataset is downloadable or not.

our customers need tighter control over data download capability for users/group access.

a user or a group can have view capabilities but may not have download capabilities.

Security needs to be updated to control services access to user/group

This has been a very old long running demand, even in previous ideation and much before.

Status: Delivered

The APOLLO 2020 release included implementation of a new security role to give more control over download and CZS.  The new role is esp_clip_zip_ship.  See APOLLO 2020 Adminsitration Guide and APOLLO 2020 Data Manager Help for more info.

Set defaults for custom queryables for searching in the portal

When setting custom queryables in APOLLO, you can set defaults to fill in the catalog.  It would be nice to have the ability to set defaults in the search criteria in the Geospatial Portal.  For example, the customer we're working with wants to use APOLLO to be a full catalog of all their data and we have a custom queryable to set if this item is either Pending, Active, Deprecated or Superceded by another dataset.  We'd like the portal to have this custom queryable be set to Active by default, rather than having the users always set this before searching.  Defaults that would be useful would be for numbers, text, enumerations, current date/time and current date/time plus or minus a set number of days.

These defaults should be different than the APOLLO crawling defaults.  Crawling in APOLLO things are set to Pending, but searching in the portal it should be Active.

Status: Delivered

This will not be implemented into the existing APOLLO + Geospatial Portal... but it is already provided by the new Catalog Explorer client.

The Catalog Explorer client allows you to Save specific searches or queries.  So you could simply execute a saved query repeatedly with ALL of your preferred search criteria.  Since you can have multiple saved queries for multiple scenarios, you could have unique queries for Pending, Active, Deprecated or Superceded ready to execute at any time.

When Apollo admin try to create their own default workspace, often time they didn't add workspace ID to portal instance (via admin console), so their catalog connection will be lost for the new session. Apollo users don't know where to find this information, since Geospatial portal document doesn't cover Apollo catalog.

Basically user need to do the following steps in order to have Apollo catalog connection in their workspace.

As an administrator of ERDAS Apollo services I have to report usage statistics. I would like to be able to collect and report on usage of the different Apollo Catalog related services such as CSW, Web Interface, API requests and similar.

I believe ApolloCatalogWMSPublic and ApolloCatalogWMSPublic usage statistics can be collected using WebGIS Basic Log Service (SDIProBasicLogService) (I have not verified / tested). If that is not the case they will also need collecting.

I observe Apollo Core already makes usage statistics available.

Status: Delivered

APOLLO 2020 provides some ability to track usage statistics.  See the new Analytics option on the ERDAS APOLLO home page.  See the ERDAS APOLLO Users Guide and Administrators Guide for more details

ImageChain enhancements

Currently, Imagechain styles simply list all of the available parameters for that Style. While this was good enough for 16.0, this story is to

    1. Add an additional column listing the default values
    2. Allow administrators to,
    3. # override the default values with some other value
    4. # reset back to defaults defined in the imagechain model
    5. Display the "type" of parameter (if IM provides us the suitable API)
