Question

Can ERDAS IMAGINE export raster images to KML format for viewing in Google Earth?

Answer

ERDAS IMAGINE does not support the export of raster images to KML or KMZ formats.

IMAGINE Photogrammetry does support the export of block files to a KML file which will contain the footprint polygons for the images, orthos, the DEM, and points for the GCPs, check points and tie points.

In order to create the KML from IMAGINE Photogrammetry, please do the following:

  1. Open a block file IMAGINE Photogrammetry.
  2. From the Tools menu select Export to KML.
  3. In the Export to KML dialog, specify the output filename and choose the options that you want to export footprints and points for.
  4. Click Export button.

Google Earth supports WMS services, so you could setup a WMS service using ERDAS APOLLO and then create your own WMS URL, so that Google Earth can read the URL and display the image.
