“Data value out of the range of LUT” error when performing Histogram Matching.

Question

When attempting to Histogram Match two images an error occurs stating “Data value out of the range of LUT”. What can be done to resolve this issue so that the images can be histogram matched?

Answer

The error message “Data value out of the range of LUT” is often caused by the image statistics being incorrect. Use the Image Metadata tool to recalculate the image statistics with X and Y skip factors of one and the Bin Function set to Direct. Do this for both the input image and the input image to match before running the Histogram Matching tool.

Home tab > Information group > Metadata menu > View/Edit Image Metadata > Edit menu > Compute Pyramid Layers/Statistics.

Raster tab > Resolution group > Radiometric menu > Histogram Match
