What is an LTFx file (*.ltfx)?

Question

What is an LTFx file (*.ltfx) and why is it not recognized by IMAGINE LPS 11.0x and earlier versions?

Answer

An LTFx file (*.ltfx, LTF v2.0) is an indexed terrain format that serves elevation data from hundreds of millions of irregularly spaced points. It builds upon and improves LTF v1.0. It is designed to cater to point cloud datasets with billions of points in such a way that it can be accessed efficiently for visualization and updates.

The LTF v2.0 file is a HFA file with an .ltfx extension. The new file extension isn't recognized or visible to IMAGINE/LPS 11.0x and earlier.

The format now consists of two or three distinct files:

• An .ltfx file containing header information, mass points with attributes and spatial index.
• An .shp file containing breaklines.
• An .lld file containing mass points at reduced resolution levels of detail (LODs or pyramids).
