Question

What is the *.LTF file format?

What is the *.LTFx file format?

Answer

.LTF is the Leica Terrain Format v1.0.

.LTFx is the Leica Terrain Format v2.0.

Leica Terrain Format v2.0 is a terrain format which builds upon and improves Leica Terrain Format v1.0. It is designed for point cloud datasets with billions of points in such a way that it can be accessed efficiently for visualization and updates.

The format now consists of two or three distinct files:

An .ltfx file containing header information, mass points with attributes and spatial index.
    An .shp file containing breaklines.
An .lld file containing mass points at reduced resolution levels of detail (LODs or pyramid layers).
