Why doesn't Google Earth functionality work in ERDAS IMAGINE 2016?

Question

Why doesn't Google Earth functionality work in ERDAS IMAGINE 2016?

Answer

Google Earth has to be manually launched and kept open along with ERDAS IMAGINE 2016 in order for the Google Earth functionalities with ERDAS IMAGINE to work.

The latest versions of Google Earth will not connect to ERDAS IMAGINE. Installing an earlier version of baseline Google Earth will solve this problem. Please try using Google Earth version 7.1.5.1557 or earlier. The installers for version 7.1.5.1557 of Google Earth and Google Earth Pro can be downloaded from the links below.

Google Earth v7.1.5.1557 (baseline version)

You may also find that if you want to use Google Earth Pro (which is now available free) you need to install both Google Earth Pro  and Google Earth since the API used in the live-link is only distributed in Google Earth. This works with versions v7.1.7.2602 and v7.1.5.1557, but there's no guarantee that Google wont remove the API entirely in the future.

I am having this problem with Imagine 2015. I have the problem on my home computer, and my work computer, but it was working on both computers 2 weeks ago.

I have manually opened Earth, but I still get the error message. Reinstalled earth, earth pro, but can't get it to work anymore.

What error messages are you seeing? Can you account for any changes that were made to the computers since Google Earth functionality was working in IMAGINE 2015?

"Unable to initialize Google Earth Application"

My colleague installed Earth and couldn't get it to work, and mine was still working. But now its not.

On my home computer, my license expired, and I was issued with a new one.

On the work computer, I can not recall any changes.

I can assure that Google Earth is open.
