Tasseled Cap Transformation coefficients

I am trying to create Tasseled Cap Transformations using USGS surface reflectance products acquired with the Landsat 5 TM sensor. The Erdas Imagine Version 16.5.0 Build 852 default TC coefficients are quite different from those published by Crist (1985). The Imagine default also contains an ‘Additive’ column. The only info I can find on the Additive column is this mention from the Help file: “The extra column for that row is called Additive and denotes the constant added to each output band.” Can someone please provide me with an explanation of how to assign ‘Additive’ values to ensure my data conforms with Crist (1985)? Failing that, what values should be added to the ‘Additive’ attribute to make it null? I've included tables below for the Imagine default, and for the original Crist (1985) coefficients. Thanks in advance.

Hi Peter,

 

This paper by Crist, et al, 1986 is the source of the matrices used in ERDAS IMAGINE for Landsat 5:

The paper also explains why the Additive values are used. They can be ignored if you don't want the results to be directly comparable with those from Landsat 4.

 

If you would prefer to use the 1985 coefficients instead, they can be easily applied - just plug those values into the matrix following this type of approach:
