As mentioned in the Java Client Road Map Update, Java Web Start will not be included in Java SE 11 and later.
Since launching GMSC is based on JWS, what will happen to providers having GMSC 2018 (16.5+) in production after Java 11 going GA in (proposed) September 2018? Java 11 will be on Long Time Support, therefore being the Java Platform we will have to deal with for a "long" time (thus replacing Java 9/10).
As mentioned in the document, there are alternatives: jlink or 3rd party solutions.
Concrete question: Which way is Hxg going to take?

Hi ElLuce,
we are working on a new strategy and more details will be provided in the next weeks.
The solution itself will be delivered as part of an update of GeoMedia Smart Client 2018.
Please note that the release date for this update is not defined yet but we will reconcile with the Java SE 11 release to avoid any negative impacts for our customers.
Best Regards,
Steve

Hi ctheiler,
sorry for the late response.
Not yet, but we will replace Java Web Start with Hexagon Geospatial technology. More details will be provided at the HxGN Live at latest.
