Localize GeoMedia Smart Client (How To)

This chapter describes how to localize GeoMedia Smart Client.



Note: Only partners are allowed to register at the Smart Client Language Administrator.



The GeoMedia Smart Client ecosystem offers you a Web-based solution to do the localization of the product. You can create or change your own localization independently of the product release cycles, and you can easily integrate them to your local Smart Client installation.



Create an account

To protected the localization workflow against unauthorized access, you have to create a user account:




  • Open the register form on the bottom right of the login screen.
  • Type in your account information and save it.

Hexagon Geospatial will check the account information provided by you, and an email will notify you as soon as your account is ready to use.



Localize the product


  • Browse to
  • Log in with your username and password.
  • To start the localization, click Edit & Download and choose the corresponding GMSC version from the dropdown list.
  • Choose the language you want to localize (as default, only one language is available).
  • Per default the settings are set to Hide deprecated and Not Localized so that you get an overview which entries aren't translated for this specific language.
  • Then you can either translate the value or edit the entry.
  • You will then see following form:


  • With the checkboxes you can set different filter. 
  • To edit an entry, click on the edit button on the right side of the table, and you will see a form like the one shown below. Fill in the Localized value textarea and save it.


  • Repeat the last two steps until all items are localized.
  • Finally, to create the language pack, click on Download Language Pack.

Note: This step has to be done every time you have changed something in the localization.

Download the language pack and integrate it in the local GeoMedia Smart Client installation


  • Browse to
  • Log in with your username and password.
  • Select the language you want to download.
  • Click Download LanguagePack.
  • The download will start automatically, and you can save it to your local disk.
  • Extract the files from the ZIP archive.

Note: If your language is not part of the list, look to the last step in the previous chapter.


  • Delete existing language packs
  • Extracted the downloaded zip to  ..\GeoMedia SmartClient\Program
  • Finally, the new language pack is applied, and you can use it with the next client start (as long as the administrator has applied the language to the user).


Localisation of form components
