export to shape

At one computer of our customer the user gets an error, when export from an ACCESS-Warehouse to SHAPE with Geomedia 2016 SP1 Essentials.


 In the export.log: "Failed to retrieve field information from the input recordset."


At the other computers of the customer it works. I Have a copy of warehouse and it also works.

What problem could the user/computer have?

Since this problem is occurring on a single machine I would suggest trying the following in the order listed...


  • Create a new GeoWorkspace and make a New Warehouse Connection to the Access warehouse and then try Export to Shapefile again.
  • Ensure that Net Framework 4.5.1 is installed on the machine.  You can run the .NET Framework 4.5.1 Full Profile installer by right-clicking the NDP451-KB2858728-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe and selecting 'Run as administrator'.  The NDP451-KB2858728-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe is delivered with the GeoMedia Desktop 2016 software and is present in the same folder as the Setup.exe and Setup.vbs file.  If the Setup.vbs file is used to install GeoMedia Desktop 16.1 then a check is made for the .NET Framework 4.5.1 Full Profile and if it is not found it will be automatically installed.
  • Run the GeoMedia Desktop Configuration Wizard (to re-register the product) and try Export to Shapefile again.
  • Perform a Repair of the GeoMedia Desktop installation from the Control Panel > Programs and Features dialog, then try Export to Shapefile again.
  • Use Program and Features to remove any GeoMedia add-ons, followed by any GeoMedia patches, and finally the GeoMedia Desktop core software. Then reinstall the GeoMedia Desktop software (perhaps from a fresh download from Try the Export to Shapefile command again.  If Export to Shapefile now works install any desired GeoMedia patches and/or add-on products.
  • Report this issue to your local Hexagon support organization in your region.
