G/Technology data server and flattened views

Question

Are flattened views always required using the G/Tech data server?

After using the G/Tech Interface to Import a G/Tech legend into a geoworkspace some users may want to see all the G/Tech database attributes.

If your goal is to view only geometry information in the GeoMedia environment, no data preparation is required. While this will display the geometries and the limited attribution that is published in the DDCs, you will not get the full database attribution associated with the geometries.

Answer

Retrieving the additional attribution using the G/Technology data server requires some specific preparation in the G/Technology warehouse. Properly preparing your data ensures that the appropriate data attribution is included for the geometries that are displayed in the GeoMedia map window. Data preparation requires a good understanding of the data model used by G/Technology.

To serve up the attribution contained in the various nongraphic tables and the views that make up the complex feature model of G/Technology, you need to create flattened views (or tables) containing the required attributes. These flattened views consist of a join between the graphic component table/view that was used to publish the DDC file and any other attribute tables/views that have some relation to the features contained in the DDC recordset.
