GeoMedia Grid Layers copied to other study areas

by Technical Evangelist Wednesday (8 Views)

Question

What happens when a grid layer is copied from one Study Area to another?

Answer

If the Study Areas in question have the same coordinate system and cell resolution, the copying of the grid layer is relatively easy, as no reprojection takes place. The data file associated with the layer is copied and referenced in a new grid layer entry in the layer table for the receiving Study Area.

If the Study Areas in question have different coordinate systems or cell resolutions, then the layer is reprojected when it is copied into the new Study Area. The reprojection will alter the geometry of the layer using an image warping technique; there is the possibility of data loss in the warping process.

     * The use of data warping (movement to other coordinate systems) should be kept to a minimum.
