Oracle data server entries do not appear in the list of available data servers on the GeoMedia ‘New Connection’ dialog

Symptoms

The Oracle Object Model Read-Only and Oracle Object Model Read-Write data server entries do not appear in the list of available data servers on the GeoMedia ‘New Connection’ dialog.

Diagnosis

This problem can occur if the Oracle 32-bit client software was not installed prior to the installation of GeoMedia (i.e. the Oracle client software was installed after the GeoMedia software) or if the wrong version of the Oracle client is installed (i.e. the 64-bit version was installed instead of the required 32-bit version.)  In rare cases the correct 32-bit version of the Oracle client is installed, but for some reason it is not recognized by GeoMedia so the Oracle data servers fail to register automatically.

Solution

1. Confirm that you have installed the Oracle 32-bit client software.

2. Run the ‘GeoMedia Desktop Configuration Wizard’ utility. (This will register GeoMedia and in most cases will enable the display of the Oracle data servers in the New Connection dialog.)

3. If the issue persists after step 2 try manually registering the data servers using these steps:

From a command prompt window (cmd) enter these commands…

CD C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intergraph\GeoMedia\Program
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\REGSVR32 GOraRW1.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\REGSVR32 GOraRO1.dll

* If you are using a non-English operating system the path for the GeoMedia\Program folder noted above may need to be modified for your system.
