Question

When attempting to create a new warehouse connection to an Access database located on a remote share, the following error may be displayed: Unable to access file < >.mdb. File may already be in use.

What is the cause for this error message?

Answer

This error message can occur when the user does not have write privilege to the folder containing of the Access ,mdb file (even for read-only connections) because write privileges are necessary so that Access can create the lock file (.ldb) for the .mdb file.
