Some of our Smart Client users rely on the GPS on the Motion tablet, but are finding it difficult to use.
Firstly, just trying to activate the GPS takes a long time, especially out in the field it can take minutes. We were wondering what is causing this lag. Is it actually trying find satellites at this point? I thought this would occur once the GPS device was selected within this dialog.
It also seems to take a long time to stop the GPS. One of the users showed me that when he closed the GPS and moved to a different location the map still centred on the original location. We don't have the best network coverage so that wouldn't help, and it could be that the GPS can't reach the satellites, although he generally uses his external GPS.
They also have issues with using the external bluetooth GPS in offline mode. Today we were testing this and would disconnect as soon at it connected, yet it works fine on other devices (not using Smart Client).
Does this sound like network/device issues or are there known Smart Client issues with GPS?

please check the client log files to understand what is happening. Which version of Java are you running? 32 or 64 bit? Please check it in the task manager if you have installed more than one version.
