GeoMedia 3D - Models & Effects Tutorial Data
This dataset is for  all of the tutorials noted below. This dataset is a zip file and it is approximately 85 MB. Click the download link below to download the zip file to your computer. Once the download has completed, unzip this file and place the extracted folder “GeoMedia 3D 2015 Tutorials” on your C drive (C:\GeoMedia 3D 2015 Tutorials\).

01 Importing 3D Models

GeoMedia 3D can be used to create simple 3D representations from area feature classes containing building footprints. However, in this tutorial you will learn how to import a collection of detailed 3D models representing buildings into GeoMedia 3D. The intent of this tutorial is to outline the steps needed to use the Import 3D Objects utility that comes bundled with GeoMedia 3D and then, in turn, make use of the output to display building models in GeoMedia 3D.

02 Leveraging 3D Mesh Layer (3DML) Files
3DML files can now be used in place of any 3D model layer in GeoMedia 3D. 3DML files are highly optimized for display within the 3D map window, and when used, rendering a large collection of features is greatly improved. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create and in turn make use of 3DML files within the 3D map window.

03 Working with Environmental Effects
The ability to integrate visual effects such as shadows, wind, fog, and rain within a 3D environment can prove extremely useful. Shadow casting for instance, allows urban planners to not only see how a new building will look in place before it is built, but how its shape/size will affect the surrounding lighting conditions. In this tutorial, you will learn how to makes use of the sun, shadow, and fog commands.
