Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

[ Edited ]

Good day everyone!

I would like to ask if anyone of you have tried importing raster data in NetCDF-4 file format in ERDAS Imagine. If so, could you please share your procedure. Thank you very much!

Re: Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

Hi Liz,

The netCDF file format is not currently supported in ERDAS IMAGINE, but it is planned for a future release of the software.

Re: Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

Hi Sir Bent,

Thank you very much for your help.

So does this mean we can only input this type of data in Imagine once it's been exported as raster thru other software?

Thanks and regards,

Liz

Re: Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

Yes, you need to convert this data into a file format that is supported by ERDAS IMAGINE such as IMG, ECW, TIFF, etc. We are working on an importer for the netCDF format.

Re: Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

Dear Stephen,

are there any news on this topic? We would also be interested in direct NETCDF-4 support in order to use ESA's Sentinel-3 data.

Many thanks and best regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

NetCDF is supported in ERDAS IMAGINE 2020 (via Spatial Modeler, so you can display them via Image Chain, or "import" through a Spatial Model).

But I'm perhaps not clear on what NetCDF-4 might be. Looks like a variant based on HDF5, which I think is supported. But it'd be good to test it and if it's not please report back and provide the sample images.

I tried some Sentinel-3 .nc files from our library and they appeared to work in ERDAS IMAGINE 2020.

Re: Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

Hi Ian,

thanks for your comment! I could open the .nc files also in IMAGINE 2020, but they are missing georeference, they are displayed but only in image coordinates, not geographical or others. As far as I see, the pixel values are ok. Do I need to apply some settings when opening the .nc?

Best regards,

Martin

Re: Import NetCDF-4 to ERDAS Imagine

Hi Martin,

The georeferencing information is actually in a seperate file for Sentinel-3 collections (xfdumanifest.xml). You may want to vote up this idea to make sure we extend the support to read that file:
