Question

How to boost performance in ERDAS IMAGINE when working with ECW imagery?

Answer

There are two preferences settings that can help. They are found in the ECW Image Files category of the ERDAS IMAGINE Preference Editor. ERDAS IMAGINE File tab > Preferences

  1. Size of memory cache allocated to encoding (% of Available Physical Memory)
  2. Size of memory cache allocated to decoding (in MB)

Encoding is for writing out ECW image files. Decoding is for reading ECW image files. The default value for encoding is 75% of your machine’s available physical memory. This is generally enough, but in can be increased if needed. The default value for decoding is 600 MB. This can be increased to a maximum of 1536 MB.
