Question

When using a Web Mapping Service (WMS) to provide the reference source data in the Multipoint Geometric Correction tool it displays the default layer. How can you select a different image layer from the WMS to use as the reference data source?

Answer

To choose a specific image layer from a WMS you will first need to display the desired layer from the WMS in IMAGINE 2D View to create a proxy WMS file. When selecting the reference data source in the Multipoint Geometric Correction tool, open this new WMS proxy file as a raster image.

In order to create proxy with the desired layer from the WMS, please follow these steps.

  1. Open the WMS in an ERDAS IMAGINE 2D View. This will create a WMS proxy file (*.wms) in the Proxies folder your ERDAS IMAGINE home directory. For example, C:\Users\<Your_User_Name>\.imagine1650\Proxies\.
  2. Turn on the layer from the WMS to be used as the reference source and turn off all other layers.
  3. Right-click in the 2D View and select the Fit to Frame option from the pop-up menu.
  4. Ensure that the displayed WMS layer is highlighted in the Contents panel then select the WMS Tab and click Open as Raster button. If prompted to create pyramid layers, choose Yes. This will create another WMS proxy file.
  5. Open this file as the reference image layer in the Multipoint Geometric Correction tool.
