Connecting to license server no longer works - wrong port@host

Question

Client has been connecting to the same server and port reference however is now experiencing the following error “Cannot connect to license server system. The license server manager (lmgrd) has not been started yet, the wrong port@host or license file is being user.”   What needs to be done to resolve it?

Answer

More than likely a change on the server has caused a port change. Ie reinstallation or licensing software update or introduction of a port conflict.


Best practice is to;

  1. Open the licensing log file on server. This is called IntergraphLicensingService.log and is found in C:\Users\Public\Intergraph\Licenses folder
  2. Locate an instance of lmgrd tcp-port from the log file. What is it? Ie 27000
  3. Is this the same port client is connecting to?
    1. If No – reconnect client using the port as defined in log file OR  reconfigure port on server to the intended port reference and try to reconnect cient
    2. If Yes – confirm this port is allowed through file wall
