Question

How to claim a concurrent 2018 Activation ID license from the Licensing Portal and activate it from the Geospatial Licensing Administrator application?

Answer

The Hexagon Geospatial version 2018 products introduced a new licensing methodology that no longer requires license (.lic) files.  This new licensing method uses an Activation ID that is claimed from the Licensing Portal for the application that you wish to license. If your license is concurrent it must be activated using the Activation ID from the 'Geospatial Licensing Administrator 2018' application.

The steps for obtaining a concurrent license Activation ID for a 2018 application and then activating the license via the 'Geospatial Licensing Administrator 2018' application are described below.

  1. Login in to the Licensing Portal using your Hexagon Geospatial Community login/password via the URL: https://hexagongeospatial.force.com/licensingportal

  1. Click the ‘Manage Licenses’ button to display the list of available products.

  1. Find the row for the Product that you intend to license by using the Search field to filter by product name if needed.
  • The ‘Available for Licensing’ column can be used to see the number of unclaimed licenses that remain for the product.
  • The 'License Type' column value of 'CC'' can be used to see which products are licensed as concurrent.

  1. Click on the row for the Product that want to license. This will open the Details page for that product with a list of command buttons.

  1. Click on the ‘Create Licenses’ button to open the ‘Create Licenses’ dialog.

  1. On the ‘Create Licenses’ dialog use the ‘Select Target Version’ dropdown list to select the desired ‘2018 (16.5.x)’ version. The dialog title will now appear as ‘Create Licenses - 16.5’

  1. Use the ‘Select Quantity’ field to specify the number of licenses desired.

  1. In the ‘Set Contact’ field you can optionally enter a contact to assign to the license that is being created. The Contact list is searchable for contacts associated to your account and you can use the ‘Create New Contact’ button to create new contacts here as well. The email address for the contact entered in this field will also be sent a copy of the Activation ID email if you use the Email option to send the Activation ID to yourself.

  1. To have the license Activation ID emailed to you (and emailed to the assigned Contact), click the Email Licenses checkbox labeled ‘Yes, please’.

  1. Click the ‘Create Licenses’ button to create the license (i.e. to generate the Activation ID).

  1. A new license row will now be visible on the Details page with the 'Activation Id / Host Id' column populated with the Activation ID (which is a 42-character string value that can be used to activate the product license). Note that an entry for this license will also be visible in the Licensing Portal on the ‘View Claimed Licenses’ page which provides a summary view of all claimed licenses for your account.

  1. You can now copy the Activation ID string directly from the web interface and paste it into a text file to save it, or alternately you can use the Email option to mail the Activation ID to the email address associated to your Community / Licensing Portal login. An Activation ID string that is emailed will be stored in a .xml file.

  1. Now that you have a concurrent Activation ID available, start the 'Hexagon Geospatial Licensing Administrator 2018' application on the server where the concurrent license will be hosted and use it to activate the license.  The instructions for installing 'Hexagon Geospatial Licensing Administrator 2018' and activating a 2018 concurrent Activation ID license can be found at this link:
