When connecting to an Access-library with WebMap API, the connection times are significantly faster (some milliseconds) as compared to connecting to an SQLServer-library with WebMap API (1-3 seconds).
What are the reasons "behind the scenes" for this difference? From an absolute point of view, the difference is not that big; however, it is from a relative point of view.

Short version is that access is a local file system database where SQL Server uses a network interface.
There are numerous reasons that there are performance differences between the different warehouse connections.
It is dependent on the data location and the warehouse type.
If you want to research it further I would suggest looking into the Microsoft Jet Database Engine and SQL ADO.
