Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

Hi Guys,

@fmak,Thanks for the info!

Yes , Installed webmap 18 Update 1 and Geomedia Desktop Prof 1 both on my local pc.I leave webmap unconfigured as I only installed it for portal sdk development , prior release like 13 if memory serves me correct needed webmap installed to function correctly and I just carried on like this , thanks for the workaround link.

Just a question , maybe I can discard webmap 2018 Up 1 on my local machine and rather use licensed Portal installation?

Will this be enough for Portal sdk?And also I assume this will resolve the Geomedia Dektop issue?

@josep.fornons,Thanks I will do this and make the result available to you.

Kind Regards

Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

Hi Jacques,

Yes, Geospatial Portal is totally enough if you just need to run SDK. WebMap is needed only if you need to provide services from that server, such as WMPS,WMS,WFS.

Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

If  I'm not wrong (I'm not expert on licensing system) it takes about 17 seconds to get the licenses, this is the time dealay that you experiment ??. On my case was about 1 minut sometimes.  In paralel we detected problem running process Monitor when there's a check for license (start first time a wms call  or a Geospatial Portal). My suggestion is that you open a ticket, add this licerr.txt and request to change server to  have offline license.

Probably server maintenance is up to a department that has their security rules and  normally people that do aplication installation don't know in detail, this was my case.

Hope this helps,

Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

Hi guys,

Okay, so after playing around a bit:

1. Regarding the page loads (Geospatial Portal and Admin Portal) it seems to be intermittent, sometime it seems that it is just hanging in the air, I see no request logs, processing anything else it could be waiting for , looks like it is waiting for IIS to respond, opening a new tab and running the same instance results in the same behaviour, only after closing the entire browser and re-entering the instance works but loading time again intermittent.

2.The other issue seems to be related to webmap publisher (WMPS) service , where the legend entries exist but the service url is not present nor looks like the fields of the legend entries , only the legend entry ID's and no styling(legend icons).

So a created a new geospatial portal , only registered the wmps service and added it to the legend.

After this all legend entries are created correctly with correct column name and styling and all data is displayed.

I then saved the workspace and set it as the starting workspace for that test geospatial portal.

After running it , it takes a very long time(can take up to 15min --- again intermittent) to load and it behaves the same as the upgraded one , main legend entries exist and child items only the id's are displayed , and no legend styling. Sometimes the wmps data source is registered sometimes not.

Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

Hi,

Yes we did open a ticket regarding these issue , but still pending.

At this stage everything is pointing to wmps except the slow performace that could be related to the same issue you had.

Kind Regards

Hi Jacques,

  1. Regarding portal load time, please enable portal log (DEBUG level) within the web.config to see if there are entries from "Intergraph.GeospatialServer.Common.Licensing.LicenseManager" causing the delay.

In my test, I am seeing 1:26 used by LicenseManager:

2 .The behaviors indicate failure to connect to the WMPS service, check the Portal Notification Log to confirm whether you are seeing the error :

Error initializing map service 'http://VM123/WMPS1/MapService.svc': Can't connect to the MapPublisher service. Please check config parameters.

If you see the above error, then check to see if (a) the WMPS data source is defined properly in this registry key (HKEY_LM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Intergraph\GeoMedia WebMap Publisher\Services\)  (b) Physical data source (i.e. C:\WebMap Publisher Data\WMPS1mdb or MSSQL/Oracle connection) and folder (C:\WebMap Publisher Projects\WMPS1) are on the system. (d) IIS Application Pool "WMPS1AppPool" is running properly.

Do you have GeoMedia on the same server ?  How long does GeoMedia take to load ?

Thanks

Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

Hi Josep,

Sounds like we are looking at same licensing issue, could you provide more details on 'offline license' ?  (i.e. ticket#, Jira# etc)

Thanks

Re: Geomedia Webmap 2018 Update 1 Slow

The ticket number for licensing problem was 00028063. There were a large mail interchange since investigation took more than a month .

This is what support told us:

The ‘phone home’ capability is a process within licensing that sends a report to our salesforce server periodically to indicate that the software was initialized based on a particular license.  It would normally only do this once a week or once a month depending on the type of license, but it appears that for this customer the connection to the server never succeeds (possibly because the customer is blocking outbound (external) network connections for GeoMedia).  This process is supposed to run in a separate thread and therefore should theoretically not impact performance.

We have had no other reports of the behavior noted at this site and we don’t know what specific security/configuration measures this customer has in place, so we can’t say when a problem of this type might be anticipated.  Typically we only provide .lic files for customer that don’t have network access (meaning secure government sites where the software is being used completely offline).  However as a means to get this customer working quickly we are making an exception in this case.

It appears that the TCP Reconnects are associated to the 'phone home' capability of licensing. Therefore it has been suggested by Licensing Development that the most expedient solution is to provide a license (.lic) file solution to the customer that will bypass the 'phone home' connections that occur with the Activation ID license.

As such, our Licensing Administrator will convert the customer licenses for the 16.5 software to .lic files rather than Activation IDs. Once you receive the license file you can use the GeoMedia License Administrator utility to import the .lic file on the machine where GeoMedia WebMap / GeoMedia Essentials is installed.

Either the License Administrator or a Customer Support representative will send notification once the license file conversion has been completed.

Based on this Licensing team get in contact with us and based on customer identification they provided an offline license.

Thanks for the feedback letting us know that the issue has been resolved. I will set this ticket to Closed per your update.

To our knowledge this problem is unique to this customer as we have had no other reports of the problem. Additionally we don't know what aspect of the configuration at the customer site is causing the problem. However I have passed your comments along to the License Administrator since documentation of the licensing workflow is handled by Licensing support organization.

This was our last comunication to the ticket, but it was closed without doing our suggestion.

Here it comes:

We aplied these licenses and Have worked fine.. I had to deactivate and return existing licenses installed by ActivationID.
As conclusion, since this is a problem that may occur on other customers, we insist that the knowledge that we have adquired with the investigation of this problem should be public and the guide to use new licensing 2018 and differences with previous one should comment these outbound connections . Please provide attached to this ticket an update of licensing system 2018 technical information that mention these changes and posible limitation based on customer configuration.

It's important that you insist on your ticket that documentation is updated on license issues
