Setting up starting workspace in Configuration Portal in custom coordinate system

Hi everyone,

We are currently struggling with defining a starting-workspace for a Geospatial Portal Instance using Configuration Portal that needs to run in EPSG:25832 (ETRS 89/UTM32 N).

The workspace coordinate-system is set to EPSG:25832 (and it is the only coordinate system set for the involved workspace); furthermore, the display coordinate system is also set to EPSG:25832.

However, when trying to add a WMS-Source (serving only map-images in EPSG:25832) the corresponding data are not displayed in the Configuration Portal; the corresponding WMS layers remain greyed-out in the map-content section.

Has anyone already encountered a similar behavior? Does a step-by-step instruction exist in order to set up a starting workspace in a coordinate system different from the portal default coordinate systems epsg:3857/epsg:4326.

Thanks & Regards,

Dominik

Re: Setting up starting workspace in Configuration Portal in custom coordinate system

Hello Dominik.

To start with, are you able to open show your WMS in GeoSpatial portal in EPSG:25832?

Instead of using the Configuration Portal you can use the 2014 method of configuring your start-up workspace.

The process is, configure your map with your WMS and EPSG, create a Public Workspace and Map and use the Link to the get the Workspace ID and The Map Id that you can then use as your Starting Workspace and Overview Map in Starting Configuration of your GeoSpatial Portal instance.

The Version 2014 Quick guide on creating a WebMap Publisher Portal instance.pdf is attached.

It still applies to 2015 although the paths and interface may be different.

Re: Setting up starting workspace in Configuration Portal in custom coordinate system

All that Marc wrote stands, of course. There are additional things to consider, though.
What does the tool tip displayed when hovering over the greyed out legend item say? If it tells that the data is not available in the current CRS, there might be an error in the WMS' configuration. If it says that the data is not available in the current view there might be a problem with the capabilities document's reported bounding box. Try to fit the layer. Does it show up then? Can you verify that it is in the proper place?
Be advised that even though great care was taken to supply the portal with proper CRS definitions, the epsg database is quite vast and there might be errors there. There could be an axis order mismatch between the portal and the WMS. Check the CRSConfig.xml or CRSConfig_v2.xml files that are in the common program files for Geospatial Server CRSStore subfolder. You can find out which one is used by your portal instance by peeking in it's web.config file. Verify that the order of the easting/northing axes matches up.
Also, try to examine the WMS' capabilities document to confirm it reports the right area in the bounding box tags. Portal refuses to request a WMS map if the current map view range doesn't intersect with the one advertised in the service's metadata.

Re: Setting up starting workspace in Configuration Portal in custom coordinate system

Hi there,

Thanks for the fruitful responses.

We just found out that the solution was even simpler --> doing all the configuration stuff with Google Chrome instead of IE solved the issue :-).

Dominik
