by Technical Evangelist ‎07-26-2016 01:19 PM - edited ‎07-26-2016 01:26 PM (1,523 Views)

Symptoms

Get following error when attempt to use the Output to Feature Classes command to write features into PostGIS database:

---------------------------

GeoMedia Desktop

The selected target connection does not support 'New' Output Mode. Change the Output Mode in Advanced tab or select another target connection. No tables will be created for these cases.

---------------------------

Diagnosis

PostgreSQL and the PostGIS extension are properly installed but after connecting to the new warehouse the following error is seen when attempting to use the Output to Feature Classes command to write features into the database:

---------------------------

GeoMedia Desktop

The selected target connection does not support 'New' Output Mode. Change the Output Mode in Advanced tab or select another target connection. No tables will be created for these cases.

---------------------------

If attempt to output again, an error occurs directing to the C:\Warehouses\GMOTTS.log file which has the error:  “Error: Output database schema is not updatable

If attempt to create a new feature using the Manage Data > Features command, the options to edit and create are not available (gray and unselectable).

Solution

A common cause is that the database where the PostGIS extension is installed does not have the required GeoMedia Metadata tables for read-write connections defined.  Use the Create Metadata Tables option in GeoMedia’s Database Utilities (Start > All Programs > GeoMedia Desktop > Utilities) to create the metadata tables.  Also ensure that the user/role used for the connection has the CREATE privilege in the database privileges Properties.
